Oh New Zealand! Aotearoa – the land of the long white cloud. Situated in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, ‘En-Zed’ offers such an unforgettable diversity of natural environments spread throughout both the North and South Islands. It’s a country that will not fail to take your breath away.
Located on the North Island, our beautiful healing destination is set on four hectares of native bush in the stunningly rugged Waitakere Ranges on the western outskirts of Auckland City. Bordered by the Waitakere Stream on one side and bush reserves on the other, there are some gorgeous bush walks right at home base and in the nearby Cascade Kauri Park. Also close by is the breathtaking Te Henga, or Bethells Beach, known for it’s rich black sand and dramatic West Coast scenery.
Our secluded retreat venue is situated just 40 minutes drive from Auckland City, or one hour by train. A group transfer from Auckland City will be arranged for those wishing to travel there together and depart Auckland City late morning of Day 1. Finer details of that will be shared closer to our retreat time. Transport will then return to Auckland on the final day arriving around midday.
Just a forty minute drive from Auckland, our home for 9 days will be at a lovely rustic retreat centre nestled in the forest. We are bordered by a small river on one side, thick native bushland all around and located only a short drive from the wild and stunningly beautiful West Coast beach of Te Henga.
Enjoy vast garden surrounds, trails into the bush, freshwater running, unpolluted fresh air , starry skies and saltwater a short distance away. This little gem is a paradise found, embedded deeply in natures elements. In the garden you can enjoy the wood-fired sauna and outdoor spa.
Rooms are on a twin share basis, with limited single supplements available. Shared bathrooms only. Simple, clean and comfortable with a selection of communal relaxing areas, both inside and out.
*One lunch and one dinner will be enjoyed off-site
Two sessions of yoga will be shared per day. Depending on our program of side trips, on some days this may revert to one. A full rest day will be enjoyed on day 4. We have a lovely yoga room to practice in, a mediation shala tucked away in the bush and we will also take the opportunity for some practices in our natural, stunning surrounds. Sessions will be lead by Fiona Galloway, founder of Wild Awake and Yoga Blu Australia, together with Sue Byrne of Yoga Byrne, Perth.
With a wealth of knowledge and experience between them, you can rest assured you are in safe hands. Learn more about Fiona and Sue on the ‘About Us’ page here.

FITNESS
A moderate level of fitness is recommended in order to get the most out of this experience, as there will be opportunities for hiking, exploring the local outdoors and being significantly active – in addition to the restoration benefits of yoga. However, ultimately what you would like to get out of the retreat and how you approach this is entirely up to you.
What a soulful and incredible experience I have had with you, Fiona. Off grid challenges where I have seen things that I will never forget with a warm and caring fearless leader has filled me with gratitude. Thank you so much beautiful Sri Lanka, and Fiona. I will return.
Thank you for showing me the way, Fiona. I wandered and wondered. Five senses were touched every day of this adventure; sometimes a sixth of some kind seemed present. I was guided to and learnt how to give myself permission - couldn't have done it without you.

Fiona went above and beyond with her retreat in Sri Lanka. She thoughtfully planned delightful and surprising experiences and treats in addition to the yoga, so we got a gorgeous taste of Sri Lanka that I wouldn't have otherwise had! Fiona is totally committed to her environmental causes and this added a wonderful dimension to the retreat experience. Her yin yoga teaching is wonderful and my hips have been opened like never before. Thanks Fiona, my hips love you and so do I!
Fiona's attention to detail, thoughtfulness and inclusivity will make me sign up for other retreats she offers in a heartbeat!
